ABSTRACT

Student's attitudes to computers in school are affected by their experience at home. They depend partly on the contrasts in the types of equipment, partly on the uses to which the technology is put and partly on the conditions in which it is used. The kind of familiarity that the pupils have with ICT is in direct contrast to the experience of school. Taking something from granted, using it or playing games with it is not the same as studying. Computers offer so much more than television that it should be no surprise that people spend so much time with them. Not only do they have the demands from school to prepare their homework, but pupils also have the means to communicate, sometimes at great length, with their friends, and they also spend many hours in long and complex games. Computers are a central part of the experience of home.
