ABSTRACT

This chapter describes three case studies of financial planning professionalism. These case studies have been chosen to provide background to this research study and include Australia, Hong Kong and the United States. These countries have been chosen because they represent exemplars of Certified Financial Planners (CFP) ® certification as espoused by the Financial Planning Standards Board and the CFP Board of Standards. Research participants for this study have been chosen from the Financial Planning Association of Australia, the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong and the United States CFP Board of Standards. The Financial Planning Association of Australia and the Institute of Financial Planners of Hong Kong are affiliate members of the Financial Planning Standards Board. Each of the case studies will provide and the professional membership and/or standard setting body and the relevant CFP® certification requirements in each country. The chapter provides a discussion on the regulatory environment in Australia and the requirements for CFP® certification.
