ABSTRACT

The Building Bridges Seminar was founded by the Archbishop of Canterbury in 2002 as a new initiative in Christian–Muslim relations with a focus on deepening theological dialogue between the two faiths. Initially based in the UK, after about a decade its organisational base shifted to Georgetown University in Washington, DC. Following the inaugural event in London, there have been 17 annual meetings down to and including 2019. Venue locations alternate between Christian and Muslim hosts with both faiths represented in the planning and organisation of each Seminar meeting. What would have been the nineteenth meeting, in 2020, had to be postponed on account of the global Covid-19 pandemic. This chapter briefly reviews the methodology of the Seminar series and outlines the 15 annual seminars that have taken place following the 2002 inaugural, from the second in 2003 to that of 2017. It will include some comment on the 2018 and 2019 seminars for which their respective publications are yet to appear. A full list of publications so far from the series is included in the References at the end of the chapter.
