ABSTRACT

The advent of Web 2.0 opened another level of openness leading to collaborative participation. Web 2.0 includes three key properties: openness; participation; and collaboration. Openness in the Web 2.0 era, in addition to open-source, includes open innovation, crowd sourcing, and so on. The traditional path to innovation was the accumulation of knowledge developed in the R&D department, which was secured inside the organization to secure market competitiveness. Once openness is adopted as a business strategy then participation and collaboration naturally follow. Service oriented architecture (SOA) is a design approach for technology convergence. Web Services is a technology supporting new business models such as On-Demand Business and Adaptive Enterprise. Web Services provides a more open system, which should lead to a better market for all participants in the long run. This open market can lead to innovation in enterprise systems. Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) views self-organizing system, whose components can be assembled in an open market accessed over the web.
