ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates how a single case analysis of an interaction between a four-year-old child and their early childhood teacher reveals their co-production of membership to both K and R collections. Through the co-production of this interaction Sacks' collection R SRP is made observable through the child and teacher demonstrating their giving and receiving of relational care through the use of gesture and verbal activities. Sarah and Jenny co-produce a collection K category through the knowledge exchange around their approach to the diagnosis of the problem through asking questions to gain knowledge about the trouble, solution and providing a possible treatment. The single-case analysis reveals that, although membership to a K collection is demonstrated through Sarah requesting knowledge from Jenny, and Jenny providing the answers, the collection R category is also co-produced through category-bound activities (CBA) associated with giving and receiving of emotional care.
