ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to make a strategic option viable it is necessary to decide how to gather the package of resources required in a structure capable of delivery. The structure should be appropriate to the corporation, its stakeholders and the nature of the business. Organic delivery of the strategy through the organization's own set of resources is the simplest and most easily controlled, where the corporation has the know-how, capability and capital. The model of disinterested shareholder, only concerned with short-term financial gain, can be a barrier to good strategy. Acquisition can be a good method for reasons which include: to obtain resources and capabilities; to neutralize a potential competitor; to harvest synergies and deliver economies of scale. Strategic thinking that looks closely at changing the ownership profile can open up more effective strategic options but the current owners will have to be persuaded that such innovative strategy is in their interests.
