ABSTRACT

People have always worried about the problems of their current era, but humans have always muddled through in the end. It is human nature to wait to be forced and only then to act. This chapter covers a few key areas will be reviewed to give an outline of the scale and extent of the opportunities. Businesses expecting too much of government policy and persuaded to invest ahead of the curve may not generate the expected returns and get caught up in the froth of green investment with many apparently good ideas culled as commercial reality bites. The best strategic opportunities are those most needed by society and most difficult to deliver. The range of opportunities is immense from renewable energy and low-carbon transport to a renaissance in manufacturing and the redesign of cities and their infrastructure and more. Corporations that lead the Sustainable Revolution will reap the rewards; the corporations slow to understand the new economy will struggle.
