ABSTRACT
This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts covered in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book examines the long-term integrative framework for Sustainable Development as well as its related ideas, issues, methodology and perspectives, the on-going unsustainable contemporary expansion. It discusses the controversial issue of the on-going haphazard economic globalization that may be mainly conducive to market failure, policy failure, culture failure and human failure worldwide. The book examines the nature of market fundamentalism and relates the contemporary power structure to compare and contrast with the Orwellian power structure. It explains society's Value Aspects in terms of the two-way processes on the normative and analogical development path. The book also discusses the Culture-enhancing employment against the ongoing Market-biased employment. The proposed paradigm shift is taken up to illustrate the linkage of local and global trilateral virtuous circles for accomplishing the integral development of the prospective global community.
