ABSTRACT

Research into culture and management, continues with occasional socio-psychological perspectives identifying new cultural orientations that are significant to management practices. Globalisation, with all its economic and social effects, is a reality for most developed nations today. When we further consider that there was no internet, cable television or international movie industry we start to get a sense of how local' the local cultures were at the time. Given the increasing internationalisation of projects, the lack of cross-cultural skills will undoubtedly limit career prospects. Any project manager who has to work within a multicultural environment, with stakeholders of varying cultures, will need to adjust their approach to communication, negotiation, governance and people management if they are to reduce conflict and increase harmony and efficiency. Moving closer to our times, about a century ago, Management Consultancy was born as a discipline with the first firms operating in such a capacity being Arthur D. Little and Booz Allen Hamilton.
