ABSTRACT

There are correlations between the dimensions. These vary on the basis of their social and historical origins, and the deeper values that lie at the core of cultural dimensions. Perhaps the strongest and most easily apparent correlation between the various dimensions is that of collectivism and power distance. Wealth also played a role in shaping IDV and PDI; wealthier countries are more individualistic and have lower power distance. Research data has shown that there is a correlation between uncertainty avoidance and power distance and individualism'. Given that power distance is correlated positively with collectivism, this would imply that high uncertainty avoidance societies are also high power distance societies. A collective society is a society that shares their ideas; making decisions and allocating activities and resources collectively. Likewise, an individualistic society will see no particular benefit in extending social and professional relations beyond their specific context.
