ABSTRACT

At the heart of every culture are the values which represent what the culture believes to be absolute, in terms of good or bad. A culture that has changed to respond to threats from invaders, will give rise to values that favour strength and bravery in men over older values of being in touch with the earth and its products. There is always a relationship between life spheres in that a family, a social or an organisational culture is strongly influenced by the other spheres and by the national culture in which they reside. A small family owned company may start with an organisational culture that respects the family culture of its owners. For large organisations, and especially multinationals, having the right organisational culture across its group becomes critical to success. If a multinational fails to implement a globally harmonious culture, it will face cultural crises on its cross-regional activities including both projects and processes.
