ABSTRACT
The power distance dimension looks at how far a culture encourages superiors to exert power. In a high power distance culture such as parts of Asia and the Middle East, being the boss means just that. Inequality is accepted. In a low power distance culture, superiors and subordinates consider each other to be equal, and both believe that social inequality in any society should be minimised. Therefore, Allen's approach to project management, which favours direct and open communication with the various ranks. Slovakia's orientation on PDI however, is very high. A year ago, the board of directors accepted the global head of production's proposal to adopt new manufacturing standards and procedures, with the aim of increasing both efficiency and flexibility. Allen Young, a senior manager in the Welsh plant has been assigned as the global project manager of the industrial project within the programme, branded Elastic.
