ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book explains cyber security and the nature of cyber threats, including technical ones that tend to be scary because they are full of jargon in a way that board directors and non-technical managers. The reality is that non-technical managers need to understand and manage cyber security. Cyber security involves the process that organisations need to put in place in order to address cyber risks. These are the risks to organisations caused by digital technology. These risks can cause damage to: organisational assets including money; operational efficiency; organisational reputation. Cyber security is accepted as a major issue around the world; for instance Britain and HM Government is supporting a number of initiatives in the area while the United Kingdom (UK) and the USA have close cooperation in this area. However, it is often thought to be the domain of specialist information technology (IT) professionals.
