ABSTRACT

This chapter starts with an appreciation of the relevance of training exercises and this is followed by a brief look at scenario planning. Simulation exercises and the learning organization approach are given consideration. Simulation exercises can be used to develop our knowledge of organizational resilience and help managers to put in place various measures to ensure that any form of disaster is dealt with in a professional manner. The literature used throughout the research process was both specific and multi-disciplinary in nature, and was reviewed by both researchers. Trim, the co-researcher from the academic partner, attended a table-top exercise administered by Upton, the co-researcher from the company, prior to the first workshop at Birkbeck on 15 January 2010. Training exercises take many forms and can be deemed necessary with respect to countering the growing types of cyber threats that can be considered costly both in terms of time expended and the cost of the resources involved.
