ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the concept of thinking through the complexities of security and intelligence, recommendations for counteracting cyber threats. Marketing strategists can play a more visible role within an organization than is the case at present by adopting the strategic marketing school of thought, and by linking corporate intelligence with corporate security. The reason why a collectivist organizational culture can be considered necessary is that the various business functions require staff to deal with data that is of a highly sensitive nature. Data needs to be collected and analysed, and the findings need to be interpreted and the outcome used. The strategic marketing approach requires that marketing strategists think in terms of using a formal strategic decision-making process that places marketing oriented decisions in a policy oriented context. Professional development in the workplace is increasingly being linked with the motivation of staff in order to attain higher personal goals.
