ABSTRACT

Chapter 2 focuses on the links between daylight and place-making. It provides an in-depth investigation of the impact of daylight on the perception of individual and the collective identities as a result of attachment to place. It also traces the role of daylight in various theories of place-making and its relation to the notion of urban quality. Examples are provided from different parts of the globe to explain the role of daylight in shaping places in different locales and different weather conditions. The chapter examines how daylight could dictate the elements for spatial definition and enclosure in an urban place.
