ABSTRACT

Chapter 4 examines the links between daylight and the health and well-being of urban residents. It reviews those links within the history of architecture. Recent theories regarding the impacts of daylight on human health are also discussed. The chapter then proceeds to explain how the considerations of daylight in architecture could enhance the health and well-being of buildings’ users. The chapter concludes with exploring the role of architecture in mediating between the over- and under-exposure of urban residents to sunlight.
