ABSTRACT

To raise participant awareness of how to handle simple accidents in the workplace. In small groups, participants discuss health and safety situations in the workplace and how they should deal with them. Include situations like the following: Add examples of real incidents from people own workplace. The companion could also walk the new person to the first-aid office, and then show them where the first-aid kit is kept and so forth. Put together a handout of eight or ten common emergency medical situations that occur in the workplace. Include situations like the following: someone faints and falls to the floor, someone hits their head on an open file drawer. Then, a swarm of wasps comes through an open window, someone runs a staple through their finger, someone has a heart attack, someone spills burning hot tea on your leg. Talk with colleagues and check in the employee handbook to see what should be done in each situation.
