ABSTRACT

This chapter deals aspects of general project management and the various approaches that can be adopted to progress its activities. A project brings about change and delivers an outcome that, hopefully, is one that was intended and desired. The process of software development needs to follow an appropriate method, as does the overall project management. It is common sense to ensure that all those who need to contribute, or are affected in some way with the outcome of the project, have a way to communicate through a project management structure. For projects undertaken in the private sector the form and content of the business case will follow the procedures and practices in each organization. The business justification may have relied on strategic or tactical objectives being achieved. Benefits in a business case are predicted. It is therefore important to monitor the progress towards achieving these and ensure they are realized.
