ABSTRACT

This chapter familiarizes the reader with the development phase of instructional design (ID). The development phase transforms the course map into a fully functional instructional unit that is ready to implement within an organization. Developing a custom e-learning program may be prohibitively expensive for many organizations. Programmers use various authoring systems and/or programming languages to develop e-learning. Authoring systems are a type of software that e-learning programmers use to create training programs, using content from the storyboards. Bandwidth is necessary to consider how learners will access the training. A Request for Proposal (RFP) is a document that describes a product or service that a company wishes to purchase. The role of the instructional designer is to conduct the task analysis, identify training objectives, map the course, and create detailed storyboards. The subject matter expert (SME) is a designated person within the company who contributes his or her expertise to the project.
