ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on what technologies exist out there to use technology to the best advantage in an e-negotiation setting. It presents simple techniques for someone to perform basic intelligence online. To find content on the Web, search engines use special types of software called web crawlers that scan the servers connected to the Internet for various types of material. Crawlers pay special attention to the name of a file as it normally indicates content along with special keywords called metadata that web page designers embed in the html format of web pages. A lot of the information on the Internet is stored in databases that are inaccessible to web crawlers. Search engines depend on advertisements to make a profit. Advertisers try to promote their sponsors' products and services disguised as search results. While retrieving results is the first step in the intelligence process. Results need to be evaluated on their authenticity and credibility.
