ABSTRACT

A full spectrum of skills and know-how is required for timely and successful implementation of energy reduction projects with minimal capital expenditure. Apart from identifying opportunities for energy reduction, managers frequently rely on consultants and contractors to support them to develop capabilities of an internal change team, facilitate a transition and act as sounding board on energy reduction programmes. International and regional energy management standards and energy audit standards are available. They are sources of information to set the scope of the energy reduction works. Many a time, managers and engineers with little resources and/or experience in managing energy reduction programmes can become confused or inundated with the many choices for implementing energy reduction projects at the business. Energy management and energy reduction is not a one-person responsibility. It is very easy to fall into the trap of engaging a consultant and forget about all other key players in realising the benefits of a sustainable energy reduction programme.
