ABSTRACT

An unyielding and consistent commitment from senior management communicates the company's intention to seek energy efficiency and to drive energy reduction. To achieve lasting energy management initiatives, the first step is to gain commitment from the senior management. An energy policy documents senior management's intentions and sets a series of objectives, goals and targets to drive the company towards lower energy consumption. Senior management is likely to be interested in planned and sustain the energy reduction efforts. The creation of an international standard on energy management has elevated the status of energy to be on par with quality, environmental, safety and sustainability. The easiest and simplest way to gain senior management commitment is to request, in simple terms, their support to identify and overcome barriers towards energy reduction, make energy a topic at management meetings. Before asking for support, setting aside some time to plan and collate potential questions from senior management can pay off.
