ABSTRACT

Most managers and engineers go about energy reduction by installing new technology, meters to make sure that the new technology saves energy and applying fancy data analysis tools to budget energy consumption and track energy reduction. For some businesses, energy reduction projects are not implemented because managers and engineers try to quantify all energy reduction opportunities to the minute detail. Employee involvement in learning about energy is highly motivating and can be used to energise the workforce to save energy from the start. The international standard on energy management is one of the available closed-loop management systems, written and approved by the international community. It supersedes the European Standard for Energy Management. In many companies, senior management draws up an energy reduction strategy, objectives and targets, and allocates resources. There is an explosion of businesses that publicly announce their desire to reduce energy consumption by a fixed figure within a certain time frame.
