ABSTRACT

In an energy reduction programme the feedback is information on energy consumption. Many managers and engineers fail to communicate effectively information relating to energy consumption and progress of energy reduction projects. Generating the same set of energy data as feedback means that many employees within the business will not be able to relate the information to their work. That piece of energy data is, therefore, a waste of time and effort, and the energy reduction programme is heading for failure. Some of the available energy data would have been identified when preparing a success map. Similar to accounting practices, many managers and engineers rely on month-end, quarterly or year-end energy data to review energy consumption. When managers and engineers think about managing energy on a daily basis, many would immediately think about installing energy meters. Energy metering should not be used to mean buying and installing energy meters and automated data logging systems in every location within the business.
