ABSTRACT

Consultants and contractors use statistical tools to determine if weather, transportation, heating, cooling and ventilation related energy consumption exists in a business. Making energy consumption predictable is a user friendly and powerful tool to track deviations from expected energy consumption patterns, and highlights the need for closer management control. Consultants and contractors generally use the term energy audit to mean one or a combination of the following five tools and techniques are Energy accounting, Energy balance, Energy monitoring and targeting, Energy benchmarking and Energy opportunity finding. Benchmarking is a structured process of continuously measuring and comparing energy processes and performance against comparable processes in leading organisations to obtain information that will help a business identify and implement improvements. A benchmarking exercise can be done for specific processes within an organisation; specific processes across a broad range of organisations; or with similar processes across a broad range of organisations.
