ABSTRACT

Gaspar Chillan Irishman—Says that it is six years since he came from his country to Bilbao following up some important lawsuits concerning himself and some eminent citizens of London and which are pending in the royal Chancellery of Valladolid, as can be seen in the affidavits and sureties which he presents. Most Excellent Lord -Gaspar Chillan, an Irishman—says that in the year of 1622 Sir Thomas Rodriguez, an English pirate, went with five ships to the river Amazon and coast of Guayana; one of them was lost, the passengers escaping. The leader of the Irish entertained the masters and commanders of the Dutch and detained them as prisoners, until he had forced them to unload and carry all their pieces of artillery and powder to the Irish fort.
