ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on entrepreneur who managed to keep his enterprises clear of governmental interventions, Mr. Xu Wenrong, the founder and leader of the Hengdian Group in the province of Zhejiang. Entrepreneurial authority can be seen as a special type of charismatic authority, although we cannot expect an entrepreneur to carry all the characteristics of a charismatic authority defined as an ideal type. Hengdian's success would be impossible without its relatively high institutional autonomy, which in turn would be impossible without Xu's entrepreneurial authority. In China, being humble is a great virtue, especially after one has made a name in the public memory. Salary determination is a part of the resource mobilization. Communal ownership represents an advanced form of social ownership, which does not involve individualized ownership of properties or means of productions.
