ABSTRACT
This final chapter will reflect on the growing importance of social dimensions to sustainable development and the increasing attention being paid by policymakers to ‘human’ solutions to environmental problems within the context of the empirical research reported in Chapters 6 to 9. The chapter begins by reviewing the critical shifts in our understanding of the relationship between sustainable development and society, before exploring the dominant themes to emerge from the research and the potential for further work in this area.
