ABSTRACT
The approach of Western scholars to the Vinaya Many legal scholars have discussed the role of rules. It is argued good laws are beneficial for social cohesion as they may provide a compact around which social life may organized. This may result in a society being organized into orderly channels to facilitate the allocation of resources and the allocation of specialized roles.
