ABSTRACT

This chapter puts theoretical knowledge to work in actual programme preparation. The text and illustrations walk the reader through problem analysis in people’s everyday lives (utilising tools that draw on sociological thinking about social practices), setting objectives for practice change, analysis of key actors in the field (more traditionally defined as target groups and stakeholders) and building a coalition of different partners, since no programme alone can achieve a long-term impact. The chapter ends with a sketch of a possible example programme meant to illustrate different ways of picking a strategic path that paves the way for tactical planning and implementation. The aim is to provide a systematic, usable yet theoretically coherent roadmap of analysis and planning that should ensure that the programme is on the right track from the start.
