ABSTRACT

This chapter elaborates on various activities and methods of intervention structured according to the main practice element – meanings, things/environments or skills – they address. Although such a division is bound to be somewhat arbitrary and simplified, its objective is to provide for systematic thinking in programme design. Each section places programme building blocks in a theoretical framework, which guides the reader in making choices among them and designing cohesive activities (together with coalition partners) that in one way or another affect all practice components. Towards the end of the chapter, a brief overview of social innovation as a new integrative concept is provided. The chapter ends with some down-to-earth advice on implementation, without going into tactical or operational detail.
