ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the use of semi-structured questionnaires with three target groups involved in different ways with sexual violence in the International Court for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and the War Crimes Court (WCC) in Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH). The three target groups were: Court Members of the ICTY and the WCC. Rape/sexual violence female survivors who testified about their ordeal in the ICTY or the WCC, or both. Personnel from non-governmental organization (NGOs) are working with survivors, including legal and mental health professionals, academics, journalists, and members of international organizations monitoring or working with both courts. Members were selected for the study if they had been involved in cases of rape and sexual violence. Trial monitoring of selected cases in the WCC involving sexual violence was conducted by a local graduate student in gender studies, trained and supervised by the investigator.
