ABSTRACT
As outlined in Chapter 2, the two central energy challenges the world is facing today are securing the supply of affordable and reliable energy services for everybody and the transformation of our energy system into a low-carbon, efficient and environmentally benign system. Given the enormous scope of these challenges, the IEA was right in demanding “nothing short of an energy revolution” (IEA 2008: 37). This chapter will examine the positions of the individual G13 countries towards undertaking this venture by mobilizing the G8+5 process. These 13 countries are the major energy consumers and the most important economic actors of the world. In their position, they hold the keys to shape the world's energy future.
