ABSTRACT

This chapter covers two different formats for idea generation on global teams, and suggests the use of software tools that can stimulate creativity over distance. Depending on the project type, complexity and area of application, creativity can be required for the execution of every project activity during the whole project life cycle. As a general rule, global project managers must consider if the organisation of brainstorming sessions on the following occasions would add value to the project outcomes: development of project charter and preliminary scope; preparation of all components of the project management plan; definition and preparation of the scope planning and the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS); activity definition and schedule development; estimating; risk identification, risk response planning, qualitative and quantitative risk analysis; selection of sellers. The first coordination style for idea generation is online brainstorming', which consists of people spread over different locations participating in a brainstorming session through interactive video or imaging tools.
