ABSTRACT

Mutual trust and respect are very important ingredients in any relationships. Companies really interested in external forms of innovation need to be dedicated to promoting improved communication, closer cooperation, and greater respect between all of the parties involved. Mutual trust and responsibility are the basis for cooperation. It is important to remember that people are different, collaborative innovation is complex and no one is perfect. A company should talk openly and frankly with the other parties involved and demonstrate a willingness to work with them to resolve any issues. Companies must deal with them in a fair manner and negotiate a reasonable settlement of any areas of disagreement. Under no circumstances should companies leave any areas of dispute unresolved. Companies should strive to achieve a long-term mutually beneficial and harmonious relationship with their external innovator community.
