ABSTRACT

Early focus on business critical issues such as absence management meant that organization was able to monitor, benchmark and target absence and plan proactive policies. Whilst the programme has still to complete the initial roll-out, this is now regarded as being relatively stable and Jim O'Connell and the team have turned their attention to the next stage of developments. At this point it would have been easy to simply review products, in this context narrowing choice down offered by Oracle, SAP and PeopleSoft powerful enough to handle what Norwich Union Insurance (NUI) described themselves as simply a 'workhorse solution'. Successful implementation and consolidation of the new Human resources (HR) and payroll platform, in particular delivering the single source of employee data goal that HR had demanded, provided sufficient evidence to secure further investment funding in their technology transformation strategy. Technical complexity of the HR operating platform was significantly reduced along with IT support costs and, importantly, change request turnaround times.
