ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book presents an interdisciplinary interpretation of appropriating religious practices and educational issues in teaching and training through ritual processes. It provides tools to help analyse empirical case studies by examining some of the conceptual issues relating to the analyses of the negotiation processes among Christians, particularly between the Presbyterian Church of Nigeria (PCN) and members of the Ogo society. The book also presents a literature review as well as a historical and socio-political background of the Amasiri. It highlights the contextual and internal factors in relation to the practices of Christianity and the Ogo society in the Amasiri. The book explores the nature of the theory of conversion and provides an overview of the resources for the study of conversion from indigenous religions to Christianity, especially among members of the PCN.
