This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book reviews the growth of the Internet in relation to personal preferences in its use. It explores the e-learning market place, infers from history what are the most likely developments for its use in relation to learning and the impact culture has in its use and the impact e-learning may have on corporate culture. The book explains the different reasons why a learner needs to interact with others in the context of e-learning and, by inference what e-learning may lack. It also explains the ways in which e-learning can give feedback of cognitive skills. The book describes the preferences of individuals in relation to learning. It provides practical guidance on making e-learning work in relation to individuals. The book shows that the Internet heralds significant changes in society and technology.
