ABSTRACT

A moderate level of military education was the main resource for habitus group, which included tactical implementers of strategic plans as well as a patrimonial network, of which they were part. They had a medium level of military education either before joining the resistance, such as the old military elite, or they joined the Cadet School. Membership in the respective political organization running the camp was essential for getting a job, getting promoted, and oftentimes for making a living. After attending the Political Warfare School, military recruits attended the KPNLF Cadet School. Lacking military education and discipline, they may obey just about anyone who gives them instructions or orders instead of adhering to proper formal military codes and regulations. In practice, military discipline does not allow for many ethical considerations. Loyalty and military tactical knowledge were central to their discourse and power practices, although some of them may never have received a formal rank.
