ABSTRACT

This chapter shares what someone interprets to be the multiple crises that humanity is currently facing. These believe to be not merely the result of temporary flaws in our political and economic systems. For Gilbert Rist, Emeritus Professor at the Graduate Institute of Development Studies in Geneva, the backdrop to 'development' was the League of Nations. The initial and perhaps the influential perspective to date has been one on development economics, with its focus on economic growth closely aligned with the economic and political hegemony of the USA following World War II. The chapter analysis that the world is undergoing a profound civilisational crisis in an attempt to outgrow the existing, modernist worldview and forming a new, more sustainable paradigm, our approach to Integral Development sees itself clearly contributing to third project of building an 'alternative to modernity'. Someone thereby see our approach also aligned with the attempt of World Social Forum that indeed believes that 'Another World is Possible'.
