ABSTRACT

This chapter maps out the Integral Development of the individual from a 'Western' perspective. It identifies that what kind of evolved organisational designs 'fit the integral bill'. The chapter sees a gradual expansion of the traditional notion of private enterprise, whereby an increasing number of organisations are putting more and more emphasis on societal engagement. It begins to envision the organisation more as a living organism, with the coordinating force, not on top of the organisation but in its very centre. The chapter aims to help revolutionise the way businesses and the social sector work together, driving business as a force for good. A social business respects the multifaceted motivations of the entrepreneur, including his or her business orientation, which, of course, includes the generation of profits to secure the economic sustainability of the business. Global Compact sees business as the key agent for globalisation. As the world largest corporate citizen initiative it pursues primary goals.
