ABSTRACT
In this opening chapter we set the stage for what we term our PHD or Process of Holistic Development. Pursuing both a relational (southern) and also, ultimately, a renewal (eastern) path, albeit against the backdrop of other paths – reason (northern) and western (western) – you proceed from origination (grounding) and foundation (emergence) to emancipation (navigation) and transformation (effect). This altogether is our core rhythm (see Figure 1.1), of integral research and development (or social innovation) with a view to releasing individual and collective GENE-ius, most specifically from a ‘southern’ or ‘eastern’ perspective, hitherto most neglected by the all-pervasive north-west.
