ABSTRACT

The data analysis shows that the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Offices of Inspector General (OIGs) has been effectively accomplishing its mission. A prosecution is considered successful when, as a result of OIG activities, its subject is convicted in federal, state, local, or foreign government locations. A significant portion of each years management decisions may relate to recommendations made in OIG reports issued during prior reporting periods. It is important to take into account that this category sometimes cannot be reflected in monetary terms but rather in actions to remedy or remove the condition that led to the IGs recommendation and may assign a fiscal impact different from the OIGs assessment of the corresponding recommendation. Successful civil actions are successful resolutions of issues arising from OIG investigations, audits, inspections, and evaluations through legal or legal-related action other than criminal prosecution.
