ABSTRACT
The major theme of this chapter is to introduce biolegality as outlined below. This chapter is an exercise in theorizing and represents neither policy formulation nor a descriptive overview. It aims to create a theoretical framework to illuminate some obscure connections between international crime and global governance. A major theme of the chapter is to introduce the shorthand term ‘biolegality’ as an active form of global governance. Two minor themes addressed are aggression and abuse of legality. The links between these themes are that biolegality connotes law with life as its referent and justification, while criminal aggression is the taking and degrading of life contrary to law in a scenario involving sustained armed force, and the abuse of legality is the taking or degrading of life under the colour of law nevertheless contrary to legality.
