ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the key novelties of Internet research, namely the introduction of new objects of research, new methods and venues of research, and interdisciplinary and collaborative research endeavours. Accordingly, the chapter has a three-fold aim: first, to shed light on accounts of the Internet as a relatively new object of study that influences research agendas and prompts researchers to revisit the study of old research questions by considering the online milieu and phenomena in cyberspace; second, to discusses accounts of the Internet as a methodological platform broadly employed across disciplines and influencing methodological processes and practices in research; and, third, to draws on the implications of Internet research for established disciplinary boundaries and especially for the advancement of interdisciplinary and collaborative research. The final section explores the repercussions of Internet research for research ethics and discuss the ethical issues that Internet researchers encounter.
