ABSTRACT

This chapter is intended to frame an enlightened Islamic discourse to address global environmental issues. Islam, as a way of life, is seen as the mercy to all humanity that can provide some remedies and insights to the global debate on poverty, finance, human well-being, progress, sustainable development and good life (hayat tayebah). The essence of knowledge, role of human and the environment in Islam will be presented. A framework for sustainability which represents four components, good governance (adl), excellence (ihsan), social capital (arham) and integrity and no corruption (fasad) will be outlined.
