ABSTRACT

This chapter covers stories, organisation and society, starting with the author's own story, to set the context. The story evolves from the author's birth in Palestine to my present life in Jordan, and includes the different situations in his life as a Muslim and an Arab that have affected his views on quality of work and life and triggered his interest in quality and transformation. Transport, Engineering and Management (TEAM) International was established in Lebanon in 1975 and moved its headquarters to Cairo in 1976. The founders were university professors working in the American University in Beirut, teaching engineering and management sciences. Actually, TEAM's focus has mainly been on training and management consulting in Arab organisations, using Western' techniques and technologies, and this has led to modernising processes. As a part of its Educational and Social Development mission, TEAM International used the company's centres around the region to establish the first Arab computer camps during the period 1985-95.
