ABSTRACT

This chapter covers different definitions of management consulting, from different points of view. It also focuses on the Arab context, alongside management consulting as a profession, with the Mustashar, Shura and Ijma as basic and essential values in Muslim society. The chapter also covers the consultation processes, such as problem solving, identifying new opportunities, enhancing learning and implementing change to create transformational organisations. Management consulting is a method for improving management practices and achieving organisational transformation. Management consulting is a professional service, whether providing technical knowledge or skills related to practical management or business problems. An independent organisation or internal consulting unit in public or private organisations can use this consulting approach. At the same time, management consulting has been developing as a profession. Management consulting is an advisory service; the consultant is not used to run an organisation or to make decisions on behalf of the managers.
