The text of James Joyce's instalment in transition 22 was published separately by the Servire Press as The Mime of Mick, Nick and the Maggies. This time, the impulse for the separate publication was Lucia Joyce, who designed illuminated letters, which she and her father called 'lettrines'. After the publication of The Mime of Mick, Nick and the Maggies by the Servire Press, it was not until 1937 that the text was revised and prepared for Finnegans Wake. As Sam Slote notes, the draft history beyond The Mime is relatively straightforward: two sets of corrected pages were prepared one in autograph overlay and one with typed overlay for the printer of Finnegans Wake. Within the context of accretive revision process of 'Work in Progress' or Finnegans Wake, the pattern seems to be that Joyce was generally less inclined to keep adding more text to fragments that had already been published as separate booklets than to other parts of Finne.
